History
My Cookie Cottage began as a small, home-based operation rooted in a love for baking and a passion for creativity. For over 20 years, I delighted in baking for friends and family, turning simple ingredients into beautifully decorated cookies that brought joy to every occasion. What started as a personal hobby quickly blossomed into something more when word spread, and the demand for my custom cookies grew beyond my inner circle. Friends would ask me to make cookies for their special events, and soon, I found myself fielding requests from people I had never met. Encouraged by this growing support and a genuine love for what I do, I decided to transform my passion into a formal business. In February 2023, My Cookie Cottage was officially born as a licensed cottage bakery, dedicated to providing personalized, high-quality cookies to the community.

Meet the Baker

Michelle
Baker, Cookier, Mom, Teacher
Hi, I’m Michelle, the heart and hands behind My Cookie Cottage, a home-based, small-batch bakery located in Carpentersville, IL. My journey into the world of cookie decorating started in the most unexpected way, rooted in family, creativity, and a bit of serendipity.
Years ago, as a busy mom of two young kids, I often found myself in the kitchen with my daughter, baking up treats to share at their school, sports, and theater events. It was our special way of bonding and adding a personal touch to their activities. As my daughter grew up and left for college, I found myself with more time on my hands, and my passion for baking began to shift. I started creating sweet treats for family and friends, and before I knew it, my hobby began to flourish as people asked me to make cookies for their special occasions.
My husband, Alfredo, has been my biggest supporter, encouraging me to turn my passion for baking and decorating into something more. With his push and the unwavering support of my family and friends, I decided to take a leap of faith. I earned my food handler's license, officially registered My Cookie Cottage as a cottage business, and applied for my LLC. And just like that, My Cookie Cottage became a reality!
Today, I’m known as “Teacher by day, Cookier by night,” balancing my love for teaching with my passion for baking. As I look toward the future, I’m excited to grow this business even more, especially once I retire from teaching.
At My Cookie Cottage, I’m here to help make your special events, milestones, and memories a little bit sweeter with custom-decorated cookies made with love and care. Whether you’re celebrating a birthday, wedding, or corporate event, I’m dedicated to bringing your cookie dreams to life!

How are your cookies priced?Pricing for our custom decorated sugar cookies starts at $52 per dozen. The final cost depends on the level of detail, number of colors, and quantity of shapes and designs you choose. Creating custom cookies is an intricate process that involves a high level of craftsmanship and attention to detail. Each cookie is hand-decorated, often requiring multiple layers of icing, precise color matching, and sometimes the use of custom-made cookie cutters and edible prints. This dedication to quality ensures that every cookie is not only delicious but also a beautiful and personalized work of art. Feel free to reach out for a personalized quote based on your specific needs and design preferences! If needed, we can always adjust design details to better fit your budget.
-
What cookie flavors do you offer? We offer three delicious basic flavors: Almond, Vanilla, and Chocolate. Our signature flavor and client favorite is the Almond sugar cookie, known for its delightful taste and soft texture. Flavors must be ordered in quantities of at least one dozen per flavor. Throughout the year, we also release limited-time flavors to celebrate different seasons. Keep an eye out for these special treats to add a unique twist to your custom cookie orders!
-
Can you make photographic cookie images?YES! I have a direct-to-food printer and can print any image on a cookie. That means I can print photographs, art work, logos and other high quality images that you choose!
-
How do I pay for these delicious cookies?Your payment in full is required up front so that I can source your cute cutters, spectacular sprinkles, fabulous food colors and the perfect packaging. If your payment is not received within 48 hours of the invoice being issued, your order will be released to the next person in line. Your payment also secures your cookie date. And by date – I mean the date you pick up cookies, we’re not going for a night out – unless you need one. Ha-Ha! When you receive your invoice, you will be able to click on the link and pay directly with a credit or debit card.
-
When are pickup dates and times? All Pre-Sales have a specific pick up date and time window. For Custom Cookies, pick-up days and times are set upon ordering, this is because other people need their cookie fix too. Please put that cookie pick-up date in your calendar. Pick-up location will be at my home, on the west side of Carpentersville, (you will receive the address – when you order cookies). Delivery can be an option if you live within 10 miles of Carpentersville, IL. However, a $15.00 delivery fee will be applied. I love a good drive, especially if I pass a Starbucks :) Once you pick-up your order (thanks again, by the way), what happens to your cookies is all on you! Keep ‘em safe, keep ‘em secure, keep ‘em cool and keep ‘em away from the dog. I am a baker, not a miracle maker.

What if I can't make the cookie pickup time?o show = No cookies Your cookies are best enjoyed fresh. Not showing up at the agreed upon pick-up time, forfeits your order. I do build in a 30 minute grace period. But take heart, after that your cookies will be donated to a family in need. If you need to reschedule your pick-up, no problem…but please reach out no later than 4 days prior to your scheduled date. If your event has been rescheduled – you may still pick up your cookies on the scheduled date. Sealed cookies stay fresh for up to 3 months in the freezer! Weather Clause If pickup is impossible due to inclement weather, your order will be heat sealed for a later pickup date. Unfortunately, no refunds can be offered due to weather (darn snow), but I will make sure your order is kept as fresh as possible!
-
Can you make orders in a hurry?I typically ask for a 2 week order time so that I can source all of the supplies and cutters I need. While My Cookie Cottage can’t accommodate all last minute orders, I will try my best to do so. However, orders placed with a turnaround time of under 6 days will require a rush fee of $25
-
Will the cookies look exactly like the pictures posted?Any pictures you send as inspiration will be just that...inspiration. I would never want to directly steal someone else's work. Your cookies may not be an absolute replica. but I’ll try to keep themes and colors close!
-
What about copyrighted images?Copyrighted images (think Star Wars, Disney and Cocomelon) are protected and I won’t be able to replicate these baked goods. Who wants a cookie controversy, right? I can make a similar color palatte though so let’s talk.
-
Do you ship your delicious cookies anywhere? As per my license, I can only ship within Illinois, although I prefer to physically hand you the cookies myself. Sending cookies can be a rough and hot ride. Broken and smeared cookies are a possibility and a non-refundable risk you take when placing a shipped order. Also, while I ship priority I can’t guarantee that rain, sleet, snow or hail won’t delay your order. Refunds can’t be offered for shipped cookies. Once tracking information is provided, claims for lost orders can be placed with USPS.
-
Do you make small cookie orders?Eenie Meenie Order Minimums (that didn’t rhyme – I’m a baker not a poet) I require a minimum order of one dozen for standard size cookies (3-½ to 4-½ in.) Need fewer? Stay tuned for Pre-Order, market or pop up shop announcement on my social media pages. That is where you can buy individual cookies or smaller cookie sets.
-
Are there discounts for bulk orders?Due to the custom work required for each cookie, I am unable to extend discounts regardless of quantity. If you have a specific budget you are working with, feel free to let me know in advance and I’ll do my best to offer you a solution that fits your budget.
-
Where do you bake your cookie orders?Cottage Food Laws While my orders are solely made in my home kitchen not inspected by the Department of State Health Services or local health department, I am a certified home baker with the Kane County Health Department. My kitchen is not nut free, egg free, dairy free, or gluten free. (Boring disclaimer, but I have to say it per the law.)
